Not being able to eat gluten, dairy or soy means that I don't get to eat Italian food very much (or at all) any more. I hear about these wonderful Italian restaurants but generally Italian is a cuisine that we avoid. I don't often cook it at home either. Despite being a huge pasta lover, so many of the commercially available gluten free pastas contain soy or end up tasting Adrasteiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02216296982608314747noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4826665848288344555.post-1479566225281256072013-12-20T08:00:00.000+10:002013-12-27T17:30:46.291+10:00Grill'd Wintergarden

Grill'd pride themselves on making healthy burgers from fresh quality ingredients. They also have detailed nutrition information on the website plus a great cheat sheet showing vegan and gluten free options.

Luckily for me, there is such a thing as a paleo cafe in Brisbane now.
Actually, Primal Pantry opened in early June and I believe they were Brisbane's first paleo cafe. In their own words, Primal Pantry offers 100% grass-fed, gluten-free, and organic meal options, made from scratch Adrasteiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02216296982608314747noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4826665848288344555.post-59838735488208892772013-09-22T08:00:00.000+10:002013-11-25T19:12:48.305+10:00Detox thoughtsIn September, I completed my own special version of the 21 Day Sugar Detox and the Whole30. I was feeling sluggish and my sweet tooth was rampant. Plus I'd picked up some bad habits that I really wanted to break, like ordering daily chai lattes on lactose free milk even though the chai powder had dairy in it and lactose free milk doesn't agree with me. I don't know why I've been feeling it more this year than any other year, but I have been.
I wanted to make something comforting, creamy and wintery for a Sunday meal and I came across this recipe for paleo chicken pot pies from Swiss Paleo. I love creamy chicken pie things. Creamy fishy pie things are good too.

I know I've been a little quiet over here lately. There have been one or two sporadic posts every few months, but for the most part my heart hasn't been into blogging. I think it's because my dietary requirements are so specific now that I didn't think that anyone would want to read about what I was cooking/eating.
Then I realised that I blog for me. I love everyone who Adrasteiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02216296982608314747noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4826665848288344555.post-19211167191538371042013-04-20T16:41:00.001+10:002013-05-11T20:28:06.490+10:00Burger Urge - Fortitude Valley
Hi everyone, I am Dave the Mega-Parm, Adrasteia's better half and a fellow blogger. I haven't been blogging for long, nor am I very good at it but I'm having a lot of fun. A couple of weeks ago Adrasteia was lucky enough to be asked by the lovely folks at Burger Urge if she wanted some gift vouchers to check out one of their stores. When I heard we could go for burgers I jumped at the chance, Adrasteiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02216296982608314747noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4826665848288344555.post-35738785791219382782012-10-21T18:03:00.002+10:002012-10-21T18:03:30.791+10:00Simple and easy raw cheesecake
Now, if that's not a picture that makes you want to read a blog post, I just don't know what is.
I'm not going to apologise for not posting for the better part of this year, but I will apologise for the lackluster photography. I received a digital SLR for my birthday and I'm still learning how to use it.

I would love to know more about how flavours work together and be able to have that "knack" to know what extra something a recipe needs to make it taste good. I know that all it takes is practice, but the control freak in me has trouble being that spontaneous.

Would you believe that I've never eaten a cinnamon roll? They've always been something I've admired on blogs but have never really piqued my interest enough to take the next step to try one.
For some reason, lately I've had quite a hankering for one. It may be something psychological, you know, how you always want something you can't have. Hello. I used to blog here.
As a bit of a re-introduction, I love food. I love cooking and eating and even though I might sometimes be lazy, I want what I eat to be great.
When you heard from me last, I had been diagnosed with my gluten and lactose intolerance. Since then, we have also discovered I'm intolerant to soy. It's been quite an interesting journey adapting my Adrasteiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02216296982608314747noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4826665848288344555.post-71735443689550634112011-09-11T08:00:00.000+10:002011-09-11T08:00:04.088+10:00Choosing Raw's Cashew Cream
Although the timing is quite good considering my last post was about Averie's Raw Vegan Apple Crumble, this was actually made to eat with my first attempt at the apple crumble.
When I first started experimenting with raw desserts, my nut cream didn't turn out very well due to my lack of skills. I really wanted to try again and this recipe from Gena of Choosing Raw was perfect. I've only made it once but I have dreamed about it many times and have always meant to make it again but I've never gotten around to it (read: I'm lazy). Then I found out about my gluten intolerance and my doctor recommended I avoid oats (even gluten free ones) while I'm particularly sensitive and typically, all I could think about was the Adrasteiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02216296982608314747noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4826665848288344555.post-81376099587830903232011-08-28T08:00:00.001+10:002011-08-28T14:14:59.412+10:00Lentil StewFirst of all, please forgive the (moreso than usual) poor photography. That being said, it was incredible and it needs to be shared.
I was de-gluten and dairy-ing my kitchen yesterday and I discovered Adrasteiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02216296982608314747noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4826665848288344555.post-48080880397028530562011-08-18T08:00:00.008+10:002011-10-10T15:43:07.812+10:00Eating OutOne of the hardest things I've found about my newly diagnosed gluten and lactose intolerance has been eating out. Working long hours in a job that can be quite stressful often leaves me exhausted at the end of the day and I really find it difficult to muster up the energy to cook.
Interestingly enough though, it's possible that this can be attributed to my B12 deficiency or even the glutenAdrasteiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02216296982608314747noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4826665848288344555.post-73346992286107704852011-08-13T08:00:00.003+10:002011-08-13T17:07:03.052+10:00Scone WeekI love Celia’s blog Fig Jam and Lime Cordial and since imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, when she blogged about Scone Week, I had to too! As Celia says in her post, it was just that a bunch of bloggers all made their own scone recipes in the second week of August last week and then they joked about designating this week Scone Week.
What a great idea.

I have been wanting a spiraliser since seeing the brilliant Robyn review them on her blog, Girl on Raw. I love pasta but I’ve really been trying to cut back on the volume of pasta I eat and I thought that having a spiraliser meant I could combine my pasta with vegies and make a more balanced meal.
