Cadbury Creme Egg Muffins


One of D's work colleagues had made a comment that she would bring in a gift for them and had suggested that they email her gift ideas. D said that she should bring in some Cadbury Creme Eggs and while he was Googling Cadbury Creme Eggs he came across this recipe for Cadbury Creme Egg Muffins and he asked me to make them.

I don't think I've ever had a Cadbury Creme Egg. My experience with them is limited to the strange television advertisements they have each Easter where the animated creme egg goes to extreme lengths to get squashed/cracked or otherwise maimed or the one where the equally strange British lady is dunking chips into them. I don't understand what those ads are trying to tell me, but I'm pretty certain that it's not to buy Cadbury Creme Eggs.

Anyway, this was incredibly easy. It's a simple muffin mix which isn't heavily flavoured or sweetened because the egg itself is quite sweet. It makes 12 muffins perfectly which is great, because there are 12 mini eggs in a pack. I have no idea what Nicole of Baking Bites did with her eggs to make them look so wonderful in the photos, but the three I cut up looked nothing like hers.

They tasted very good though. The star is undoubtedly the egg in the middle which I think is far too sweet to eat on its own, but as a small part of a bite of muffin it works. D was a huge fan. I was waiting for them to cool before taking photos, but D didn't want to wait and I had to pick out the photogenic muffins and put them out of bounds to protect them!

    I think I saw a similar recipe on www.taste.com.au. I'm currently looking for some treats to make my family this year.. Definitely might be worth a try.

  2. heya - I wonder if the other person's eggs look diff in the pics because they used a UK or US version of the cadbury creme eggs? I read somewhere that the Australian cadbury products use a slightly different recipe, something to do with making them not go yuck in the heat.. And anyone from the UK will tell you (quite vehemently!) that THEIR cadbury choc is creamier and better than ours (and sadly, they are right...)
