Friday Lunch Quick Notes: Guzman y Gomez
This is a long overdue post which came from our first visit to Guzman y Gomez at Fortitude Valley. This is their first restaurant to be opened in Queensland and D had been eagerly awaiting the opening day. We had previously visited Guzman y Gomez in Newtown on our last trip to Sydney and loved it. We were hoping it would be as good as we remembered.
Just a bit of nostalgia on my part, it was at Guzman y Gomez that I first tasted black beans and realised that they were pretty good. Pretty darn good, actually.
So, Guzman y Gomez Fortitude Valley opened in mid-December with an opening day bash and free burritos. We were very excited, until I realised I got the date wrong and the opening day was actually a Thursday and not a Friday.
No matter, we went there for lunch anyway.
On our first visit - a few years ago now - we loved the quesadillas but this particular Friday we decided to give the tacos a go. We ordered four tacos with four different fillings: Chicken Guerrero, Spicy Chicken Guerrero, Beef Guerrero and Pork Chipotle. I enjoyed them all, but the Spicy Chicken Guerrero was my favourite.

Mmm,... am thinking of heading to Guzman y Gomez for lunch today to see what all the fuss is about! I have eaten it at Bondi Junction before but was less than impressed- will have to go to the Bris Vegas version and order something different.
ReplyDeleteWe have been to the Valley restaurant an almost embarrassing number of times now We love the quesadillas, the beef stew and the chicken salad.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't all that fussed on the burritos, mainly because there's just too much going on in them, with the rice and the beans... and they are huge! The tacos are nice, I just think the quesadillas are nicer. I haven't tried the nachos since that long ago visit to Newtown, because I happened to read the nutritional guide first!
If you do go, you'll have to let me know what you thought.
